Case Study

Chef Nina Compton in New Orleans

BCPR originally represented Chef Nina Compton while she was working under Celebrity Chef Scott Conant at his upscale restaurant Scarpetta at Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

OBJECTIVE

BCPR originally represented Chef Nina Compton while she was working under Celebrity Chef Scott Conant at his upscale restaurant Scarpetta at Fontainebleau Miami Beach. Upon returning from a stint on Top Chef: New Orleans, Compton resigned from Scarpetta and partnered with Oregon-based Provenance Hotel Group to open her first solo restaurant in New Orleans. BCPR was tasked with building regional and national buzz for Chef Compton and the launch of her restaurant, Compère Lapin, opening at the Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery in June 2015.

STRATEGY

BCPR began building hype and excitement months before the opening of the restaurant, leveraging Chef Compton’s Top Chef fame and stellar resume. Prior to the opening, we held a media preview with over 60 regional journalists, introducing them to Chef and her unique cuisine. Simultaneously, through grassroots marketing, BCPR needed to introduce Chef Compton to the New Orleans culinary community and help build a following of locals and create a network of chefs, purveyors and community leaders. Since 2015, BCPR has been working diligently on building Chef Compton’s profile on the national level. We launched her second restaurant, Bywater American Bistro, in March 2018.

OUTCOME

Our press efforts and media relations for Chef Compton and her two restaurants have resulted in astounding press from the local to international levels and helped to secure Chef Compton as one of the country’s top female Chefs. We solidified a story around the opening of Compère Lapin in New York Times; helped her being named as one Food & Wine’s “Best New Chefs 2017”; effectively positioned Chef Compton as a leader in the culinary world which led to her James Beard: Best Chef South win; and garnered both restaurants on multiple ”Best Of” U.S. lists by Eater, Travel & Leisure, and many other top-tier outlets. Both restaurants are considered two of the best in New Orleans and Nina Compton is on her way to becoming a household name.

“I have been part of the BCPR family for several years and can’t imagine being with anyone else. They are thoughtful and always do what is right for the client. I am thankful for the incredible journey they have taken me on and look forward to many more years together.”
